Historically, the Air Jordan 9 hasn’t enjoyed the same type of attention as some of the silhouettes Michael Jordan wore during his professional basketball career. Ahead of its 30th anniversary, however, the model has dressed up in brand new styles that’ve captured old and new audiences alike.
Although 2023 is more than five months away, retros have already been all-but-confirmed by Jordan Brand, with the latest example arriving in the form of the “Olive/Concord” Jordan 9. Official colors for the pair are a derivative of the original “Black/Light Olive/True Red” style that helped introduce #23’s ninth signature shoe, with the titular “Light Olive” reprising its role across the textured fabric wrapped around the base, heel and ankle. “Aquatone”, however, replaces Chicago Bulls-friendly red at the spine, with “Bright Concord” animating nearby pull tabs, as well as “Air Jordan” text on the tongue and logos at the lateral midsole. Netizens have already taken to social media to express their disapproval of the upcoming retro, stating they would’ve preferred a proper retro of the “Olive” AJ9 instead. In any case, the design’s 30th anniversary is sure to host some surprises.
Enjoy an extremely early look at the pair ahead, courtesy of Instagram user @zSneakerHeadz, as you wait to try your luck via Nike SNKRS come January 2023.
