There’s little to debate the claim that the golden age of sneakerhead hunting was in the first half of the 2000s. From the turn of the century to the end of the pink-box era of SB Dunks, Nike was quietly serving of classics with no backstory or theory — just slammin’ colorways of our favorite shoes. It now appears that the brand is targeting that short-lived era for some unexpected in 2022 like 2004’s “Crepe” Pack.
Consisting primarily of the Air Max 1, Air Burst, and Air Max 90, the “Crepe” Pack was noted for a hemp toe-box,suede uppers in brown or tan, and a light aqua touch on the Swoosh and Air unit. Only the Air Max 1 had an outsole that completely swapped out the original traction for a crepe material (the Air Max 90 and Air Burst kept their traditional soles).
The 2022 version seems fairly close to the original, although the material used on the underlay is no longer hemp and rather an updated style on woven seen in contemporary Air Max releases. While purists may scoff whenever an OG detail is changed, this modification isn’t the worst because the creasing on the hemp was quite terrible back in the day.
