As the Air Ship is looking to anchor itself within the current market of mid-1980s basketball footwear, a recent influx of new arrivals have harbored ashore as a predecessor to its official announcement. With this classic hoops sneaker’s lore centered around none other than Michael Jordan, the Air Ship is every bit as deserving to be part of conversation, and in that short span in 1985 during which MJ frequented the model before he was graced with his first signature shoe, the Ship has managed to become a permanent chapter in sneaker history.
In February 2021, Jordan Brand revisited that chapter by re-issuing the original white/red colorway as part of the New Beginnings Pack. But more recently, the Air Ship has emerged in white/green, white/orange, and white/yellow — all seeded out to influencers and VIPs in the sneaker community. And despite the shoe closing in on four decades of age, the Air Ship still feels somewhat novel — a notion that Nike and Jordan Brand are looking to cash in on.
A fourth white/royal iteration joins the fleet of Air Ships, surprisingly in tandem with American retailer A Ma Maniere. This collaborative Nike Air Ship release re-establishes the standard color-blocking of the silhouette, with royal blue accents covering the Swoosh, outsole, and heel. The remainder of the shoe is built with a smooth and clean white leather, establishing that classic 80s high-top aesthetic.
Additionally, each pair of the Air Ship is individually numbered up to 2,300 pairs, with the serial placed behind the back side of the tongue label.
