NIKE, Inc. is unquestionably a leader in the modern basketball space, but the Oregon-based conglomerate has long participated in the scene. Recently, the Swoosh brand (indirectly) unveiled a new silhouette – the Nike Gamma Force – that capitalizes on the trendy aesthetics of basketball footwear from the 1980s.
While reminiscent of silhouettes like the Air Force 1 (1982) and Mac Attack (1984), the unreleased model – a women’s-exclusive – bears sufficient resemblance to the ever-popular New Balance 550 (1989). A bevy of leather panels make up the sneaker’s upper, with mesh base layers visible underneath the ankle opening. A two-piece heel clip also joins the mix, doubling-down on the decades-old design language that has enjoyed time in the spotlight over the last two years. Underfoot, the sole unit couples fashion-forward style with performance-informed traction to create a solution appropriate of the Gamma Force, which brings the 80s to the modern day.
