Michael Le The brainchild of Nike and one of tennis’ biggest legends, the Serena Williams Design Crew (SWDC, for short) is not much for following trends. Rather, the team aims to create them, borrowing the expertise of ten up-and-coming designers, whose tastes have helped produce unique twists on classics the likes of the Air More Uptempo and Air Force 1.
To further ring in the new year, the Serena Williams Design Crew is bringing their attention to the Air Max 90 Futura, providing the silhouette a makeover much more understated than the team’s previous experiments. Light tans comprise much of the colorway, painting the suedes and textured leathers that run through the entirety of the shoe. And though they remain faithful to the original model in many respects, the SWDC does, in fact, help distinguish the pair from your typical GR: alongside darning the upper in contrast thread, they’ve upgraded the tongue with a ribbed knit material that lays the backdrop for Serena Williams as well as a variety of inspiring messages.
