ASICS is constantly drawing influence from their cultural roots, borrowing the essence of traditional craftsmanship for a number of releases. This is true of many a past collection as well as the upcoming GEL-LYTE V “Modern Patchwork” pack, which is inspired by the Japanese concept of boro.

Many (especially fashion enthusiasts) are surely familiar with boro, as Kapital and many other labels have made use of the technique across some of their most popular pieces. The GEL-LYTE V “Modern Patchwork” pack, despite being inspired by the same concept, is nowhere near similar in the way of design, however, subverting stereotype with a more understated, mixed-material arrangement.

Made up of two distinct colorways — “Midnight/Ivy” and “Caravan/Black” — “Modern Patchwork” is informed by the pure idea of boro, which entails mending different textiles together. And though the aforementioned styles may approach their construction in different ways, placing emphasis on specific textures, both are made up of iconic Okayama Denim as well as flight jacket reminiscent details.
