Diagnosed with Juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia, seven years ago Dario Villaseñor Valdivia received a bone marrow transplant that resulted in his body attacking the donor cells and severely damaging his lungs. Yet through it all, the 13-year-old has exercised an exuberant outlook on life, which comes represented in his brightly orange-colored Nike Air Huarache.
One-sixth of Nike’s 18th annual Doernbecher collection this year looks to the Vancouver, WA native’s motto “Siempre Fuerte” (Always Strong) for direct inspiration – which comes illuminated across the insoles and treads underfoot. Rendering a bright yellowish-orange base layer, the pair’s pebble-grain leather overlays come dipped in a darker embellishment. Bearing fuzzy brown chenille detailing at its mid-foot and sock liner in homage to Dario’s favorite long-haired plush toy, swatches of dark olive contrast the laces and tongue tabs while a brighter shade of the latter fills the sock liner and midsole cushioning unit. Receiving a “Metallic Silver” coat across its D.V. branded heel counter, dark green returns to the semi-translucent rear pull tab while a simplified translucent tread cleans up the vibrantly-treated offering.
While we await the pair’s expected March release, enjoy official images of the Doernbecher Nike Air Huarache “Dario Villaseñor Valdivia” below in the meantime.
In other news, the Nike Air Max 1 receives a clad coat of “Baltic Blue” corduroy.
