In 1945 author and illustrator Tove Jansson introduced the world to a family of adventurous, untroubled trolls via the now iconic Finnish comic strip. While the group of hippopotamus-like characters have decorated storybook pages for decades, the fairy-tale family has since jumped from picture books to uppers of the adidas Originals teams’ latest collaborative collection.
Featuring a quartet of footwear options from the vast corners of the German sportswear brand’s extensive archives, a mix of neutrals and vibrant pastels stretch across the collection. Both the Stan Smith and adidas Nizza enjoy a supple cream canvas base layer with the low-top indulging in a cork midsole and brown accents while the platform proposition draws the Scandinavian characters across the entirety of the upper in jet-black ink. The Hyperturf in contrast mimics its outdoorsy appeal through an olive and Moominvalley-inspired ensemble with removable charms whereas the Cork Adilette Slide pairs lime green with sky blue across its bandage.
Currently available overseas in Japan, sit tight while we await details regarding a stateside release. In the meantime, enjoy official imagery of the entire Tove Jansson Moomin x adidas Originals collection below.
In other news, the return of the Nike Air Flight Huarache “Nike Gear” takes inspiration from the early 90s aerobic outfit trends.
