John Kim Sitting atop many lists for most requested revivals of the adidas catalog is the 1996 casual runner known as the Ozweego. The introductory model that spawned a mainstay franchise in the 1990s, the Ozweego was valid for active wear and miscellaneous behavior and the general consensus is that it is the choice member of the family.
As we’ve seen with many of adidas Originals’ execution of runner re-issues of the last decade, we should no longer expect true 1:1 retros. The Response CL, Yung-1 (originally the Falcon), and the quietly relaunched Ozweego 3 were stripped of the adidas Performance logo in favor of the trefoil, which itself just appears flat out awkward.
This first look at a new Ozweego based model, which we presume is called the Ozweego Millenium or “Ozmillen” based on the tongue, shouldn’t count as an actual re-issue. It’s a mere modernized, reductive take on the original as seen in the streamlined midsole and ample usage of breathable sport mesh. It’s almost as if the Ozweego ’96 and the Climacool gave birth to a new shoe. The “Millenium” name evokes a Y2K, very-early 2000s direction, but we’re nearly a quarter century removed.
Given the materials and construction, an MSRP of around $120-140 should be expected. And hopefully the Ozweego Millenium is just an indication that plans for an actual re-release is in the works.
