For his 21st birthday, Jayson Tatum treated himself to a 1966 GT Mustang. Inspired by his old soul and love for classic automobiles, the Jordan Tatum 1 “Old School” dresses in a monochrome homage to the 225 horsepower engine.
“I just try to get inspiration from anything in my life and the storytelling came to the shoes. I look for inspiration from my cars and a bunch of things came to life,” Tatum said while speaking with media at Jordan’s Basketball Design Studio in Paris.
The 25-year-old affinity for muscle cars has been more than apparent thanks to the close-knit relationship he shares with Expert Color Designer Kelsey Amy. Following the same black/silver metallic palette that treated his Air Jordan 14 and Air Jordan 36 PE from the 2021-2022 season, jet-black hues dominate the mesh upper and stitched tumbled leather heel. Illuminated by crimson red detailing shining through the forefoot and stamping the heel’s pull tab, the shiny metal alloy cures the embroidered insignias while the greyscale tint consumes the plate technology underfoot.
The Jordan Tatum 1 “Old School” is scheduled to release on July 15th for a retail price of $120. In the meantime, enjoy an up-close look at the pair below.
