In May of 2023, Carmelo Anthony officially announced his retirement, putting and end to one of the most prolific scoring careers in the history of the NBA. Named of the 75 greatest NBA players and a 3-time Olympic Gold Medalist, Carmelo Anthony has earned a multitude of respect both on and off the court for his inimitable iso scoring ability and his dedication to social justice.
To celebrate his career, Jordan Brand gifted Melo a set of Air Jordan 2s. The second Air Jordan has a firm connection with the Syracuse standout; back in 2004, Jordan Brand dropped a new Retro colorway inspired by their key roster member and his team, the Denver Nuggets powder blue and gold (it would release again in 2018). For this special gift, the Melo 2s reprise its role alongside a new black/orange/blue rendition that recognizes his time with the New York Knicks.
Both pairs feature golden appliques on the lace eyelets, heel, and tongue; this detail signifies the three Olympic Gold Medals that Melo garnered as a pivotal member of Team USA. Additionally, the custom shoebox features a mosaic of Melo ephemera such as “Hoodie Melo” and much more.
