A Rare Look At The Air Jordan 6 “Six Championships” PE For The UNC Tar Heels

With Michael Jordan being a former student, the UNC Tar Heels and their prized basketball program has understandably been on the enviable receiving end of preferential treatment in the realm of Player Editions. Ever since Jordan Brand began producing player-only pairs of Air Jordans, no school has had as many iterations of these highly collectible items, with few as compelling as this “Six Championships” edition from 2017.

First seen on display at Marcus Jordan’s Trophy Room sneaker boutique six years ago, this Air Jordan 6 was designed to commemorate the six years that the Tar Heels saw glory at the end of March Madness. 1957, 1982, 1993, 2005, 2009, 2017 all have their special place on this sneaker view an embroidered numbering on the heel, with Michael Jordan’s winning year of 1982 on the left heel.

A striking navy blue suede covers the entirety of the upper, skewing to the “alternate” look of UNC. The familiar University Blue shade, however, sits on the eye-liner of the midsole, while the outsole consists of a translucent icy blue rubber. The equally transparent tongue reveals the signature argyle patterns typically seen on the sides of the jerseys.
