Not long after Reebok teased the return of Emmitt Smith’s ES22 signature shoe, we’re now learning the full official details surrounding this long-awaited retro.
The “Club Blue” colorway first debuted back in 1997, during which the all-time rushing leader wore the turf-ready shoes throughout the season. Of all of his accomplishments that season, the one moment that easily stands out was during a game between the Cowboys and 49ers, one that marred by conflict thanks to the on-field antics of one Terrell Owens. As part of a touchdown celebration, T.O. ran to the Cowboys star logo at midfield, spreading his arms and looking up to the heavens. Emmitt didn’t take kindly to that, celebrating his own end zone score by kneeling on the star and slamming the football to the ground.
However, don’t expect an exact 1-to-1 creation. The original 1997 version of the ES22 featured translucent outsoles, a detail in which the brand hasn’t kept true to in its re-issue efforts. In 2012, the shoes arrived with gum soles, and the 2023 iteration opts for black rubber outsoles as seen here in official brand images.
An official release date is scheduled for September 15th, 2023 with an MSRP of $180.
In other Reebok news, the global drop of the next JJJJound Reebok Club C arrives at the end of the month.
