The humid heat and bustling vibrations of Atlanta are ingrained within Anthony Edwards. From his days as a top-ranked recruit out of Holy Spirit Prep to being named SEC Freshman of the Year at the University of Georgia, it was only right that adidas unveiled Ant-Man’s inaugural signature silhouette to the world in his hometown.
Following first looks at a sample version of the silhouette in early May, the adidas AE1 was officially revealed during Edward’s Homecoming Celebration at the Tracy Watt Recreation Center in ATL. Much like his game in transition, Edward’s debut signature echoes a blurred cohesion of speed and fluidity. Exploring a supple knit base layer and split tongue construction, the AE1 introduces a parametric, precision-melded TPU overlay that helps contain Edward’s multi-directional movements while providing ventilated breathability. Adhering to the baseline function of the BYW Select – which Edward’s particularly favored last season – the AE1 follows suit in the brand’s premium on-court offerings featuring a packaged BOOST cushioning system underfoot and directional herringbone blades throughout the tread.
Positioned as the new face of adidas Basketball, Edwards has been rocking the 3-Stripes since signing an endorsement deal with the brand just a few games into his rookie campaign with the Minnesota Timberwolves. After leading the USA National Team this summer in the FIBA 2023 World Cup and receiving his first All-Star bid, Edward’s charismatic enthusiasm coupled with his do-it-all nature on the court marks a new chapter in the storied history of adidas Basketball.
The adidas AE1 is expected to release this coming holiday season. In the meantime, enjoy a closer look at the pair ahead.
