Before the Protro and the low-cut revolution, Kobe Bryant’s footwear legacy began with German sportswear giant adidas. The partnership was made official in May of 1996 in what appeared to be a mutually beneficial partnership; Bryant’s family was happy to see him at the forefront (whereas he’d be in the background at Nike, Reebok, and even FILA), while adidas was looking for a fresh face and a more “affordable” athlete.
Immediately, Kobe became a part of adidas’ marketing plans, appearing in the Feet You Wear campaigns that following August 1996. Not long after, Kobe would wear his own shoes, like the KB8 seen here in the white, black, and purple colorway. In fact, this specific colorway was on Kobe’s feet during his first-ever 30 point game on December 14th, 1997 against the Dallas Mavericks. That impressive night ended up being the first of many high-scoring outings, although adidas would eventually lose Kobe in 2002 due to creative differences.
Now called the Crazy 8, this adidas Retro is set arrive soon to adidas.com for $140.
In other adidas Kobe news, the Crazy IIINFINITY is dropping this Holiday season in several colorway styles.
