Madrid’s Welcome Skateboarding Receives Its Own Nike SB Blazer Mid

Welcome Skateboarding has been delivering products and community around the sport to Madrid since 2005. Although the Spanish institution has collaborated with dozens of partners over the years, the 18-year-old label is only now getting a proper Nike SB collaboration.

In recent memory, Welcome has hosted launch events for the Swoosh’s skate-obsessed cohort, serving as a destination in Spain’s capital for the likes of Ishod Wair. The Madrid-based shop joins the ranks of Crenshaw Skate Club, April Skateboards, and Doyenne Skateboards as skate crews that’ve received their first Nike SB collaboration in 2023. Welcome may not be as known globally as some of Nike’s other partners, but its importance in revitalizing Madrid’s skate scene, which took a hit throughout the 2000s as local policies banned the sport from Plaza Colon and other popular locations in the city.

Welcome’s Blazer Mid, as its physical skate shop, is a celebration of people. Traditional branding on the spine is replaced with “Casa Welcome,” a change that invites longtime and news fans alike to what the imprint offers; the tongue label’s underside reaffirms the invitation by reading “All Welcome Here.” Sockliners are decorated with a graphic done by Marta Baztan that first appeared on a Welcome board in September 2020. The artwork depicts a range of people alongside a healthy amount of food, an image that plays into the idea of the shop welcoming wearers into their home.

Elsewhere, inner-lining and laces also enjoy a white-and-black finish that contrasts the bone-colored leather upper. Edges on the profile swooshes and other panels indulge in a wine-reminiscent red that also animates “Madrid” text on the heel. Star-shaped perforations are added to the toe box, while midsoles keep things simple in white. Herringbone traction, however, deviates in a semi-translucent finish that reveals a large swoosh logo on the left shoe.

Neither party involved has hinted at a Nike SNKRS launch date as of this writing, but that’s likely to change soon. In the meantime, enjoy official photos of the pair ahead. The Welcome Blazer Mid is priced at $110 USD.
