Michael Jordan’s signature line of sneakers continues to be a performance-basketball one at its core, but it’s transcended the hardwood. Nike, Inc. has brought #23’s winning legacy to countless designs for other sports and life, with the latest offering women quite possibly the boldest option yet: the Air Jordan 1 Brooklyn.
The Jumpman family new silhouette couples Peter Moore’s iconic basketball shoe upper with a rugged, “in your face” platform bottom that easily adds a few inches of height to any wearer. Boots by Air Jordan aren’t new – the Jordan Future Boot and AJ1 Jester XX from 2016 and 2018, respectively, immediately come to mind – but the newly-surfaced silhouette ups the lifestyle ante.
Clad in a “Triple Black” finish reminiscent of the Air Jordan 4 “Black Cat” that debuted in 2006, the boot closely resembles popular military-inspired designs. The Air Jordan 1 upper is extended beyond its typical nine lace holes, donning a healthy 12 that help cover much of the shin. A canvas pull tab appears on the spine to assist with entry into the leather boot, all while further cementing its tactical aesthetic. Swooshes land on the profiles, working in-tandem with overlays at the quarter forefoot and along the tongue to harken back to Moore’s 1985 design. “Nike Air” text on the tongue label and sockliners further touch on legacy while also promising comfortable cushioning sure to tempt some people to expand their boot rotations.
Underfoot, the platform sole follows industry-wide design cues, although Jumpman logos and grid patterns inject some personality into the Air Jordan 1 Boots’ most defining feature. The all-“Black” silhouette arrives in a large box stamped with “His Airness”‘ iconic logo in red.
