Jovani Hernandez Montreal-based studio JJJJound is teaming up with Reebok on the Classic Nylon again.
Unveiled via Instagram, the latest collaboration between everybody’s favorite image-board-turned-brand and the English-founded sportswear institution delivers much of the same as past collaborations. The vintage running silhouette reprises all of its traditional materials across the upper – nylon, suede, leather. Justin R. Saunders and team, however, reimagined the Reebok Classic Nylon through the colors of computer rooms from the 1980s, spaces often dominated by greys, taupes, beiges. Past work by JJJJound for Reebok has employed similar color palettes, drawing criticism by the sneaker community-at-large for “lazy” and “boring” design. Yet, the independent studio has built a cult-following with its visually minimal products. Its work with some of the sneaker industry’s biggest players have brought the studio’s painstakingly-intentional output to the mainstream, allowing for some consumers to “simplify” their wardrobes with footwear that’s deceptively straightforward.
The JJJJound Reebok Classic Nylon in grey features the titular tone across most of the mixed-materials upper. Vector branding and EVA midsoles deviate in stark white contrast, nodding to the silhouette’s most iconic look. A blank nylon tongue with foam padding deviates in a yellow finish that plays into the unshakeable “Neo-vintage” trend that’s existed in sneakers since 2020. “JJJJound” text replaces standard Reebok branding on the lateral profile, further cementing the Canadian label’s influence on the heritage company. Co-branding stamps the white-colored shoe box, while a dark grey outsole rounds out the ’80s-inspired collaboration.
