The New Balance 580 has had an eventful return to the spotlight. Over the last year, the model once exclusive to Japan has appeared in a healthy combination of solo and collaborative efforts. The latest?: A special collaboration between the Boston-based brand and Singapore’s Limited Edt and Mr. Sabotage.
The three-way project has been developed under the “Urban Islander II” banner. Back in 2020, the trio unveiled the first edition of the concept, which draws inspiration from Singapore’s bustling urban landscape and tropical getaway nature. The preceding capsule highlighted the New Balance 327 and NB 900, reimagining both silhouettes through the lens of military-wear. The impending sequel takes a liking to the NB 580, outfitting it in a reserved beige and black color scheme. A pineapple pattern signature to the “Urban Islander” concept is printed onto the sneaker’s sockliner and inner-lining. Premium suede and 3M reflective accents join the mix, combining high-quality craftsmanship with function-first design. Underfoot, the tried-and-proven Rollbar-assisted sole unit opts for a light-colored arrangement that also evokes images of Limited Edt’s concept.
In addition to the New Balance shoes, Limited Edt and SBTG have applied their “Urban Islander” idea to a number of apparel and accessories. The collection also includes a Helinox Chair One, OMBAK short and shorts, tote bag, hat, and socks. The aforementioned pineapple print and color palette make their way onto the accompanying items.
Enjoy official photos of the collaboration ahead. The New Balance 580 and rest of the “Urban Islander II” capsule will release exclusively at Limited Edt shops, and limitededt.com and sbtgsurplus.com on December 15th.
