Happy99 Reimagines The Reebok Instapump Fury Through The Lens Of ’90s Video Games

If you’ve spent time on social media over the past handful of years, it’s likely you’ve stumbled upon Happy99’s creations. What began as a side-project to showcase 3D shoe concepts has become a full-fledged design studio and brand with a Reebok Instapump Fury collaboration.

News of the experimental label working with the heritage sportswear brand arrives shortly after the latter announced its entry into the metaverse with the help of Futureverse. Based in New York City’s Chinatown neighborhood, Happy99 sees its project with Reebok as a full-circle moment. And it’s taking full-advantage of the opportunity, reimagining Steven Smith’s iconic 28-year-old sneaker in an unapologetically authentic manner.

“From a design perspective, the silhouette’s sharpness combined with the bubbly facade of the Pump bladder is such a cool juxtaposition,” shared Dominic Lopez, Happy99 Co-Founder, in an official press release for the collaboration. “And the option to cover with the gaiter gives it some height and a nice added layer of texture.”

Happy99’s Reebok Instapump Fury arrives in two colorways: “Purple/Midnight/Earth and “Boulder Grey/Mint.” Each pair draws inspiration from 1990s video games and anime, which becomes apparent in marketing material. The duo is covered in a mix of materials – Cordura, suede, synthetic – without disrupting Smith’s blueprint from 1995. A ripstop gaiter, however, brings another dimension to the inherently-bold silhouette, falling in line with Happy99’s vision.

Enjoy detailed photography of the Happy99 Instapump Fury collection ahead. The duo will debut via happy99.online on December 15th, followed by a reebok.com and wider global launch on December 22nd. The special collaboration is priced at $230 USD.
