For its next act, the Air Max Plus appears in a pseudo-handcrafted aesthetic that boasts a unprecedented layering of leathers on the 1999 Air Max model.
While the silhouette maintains its iconic build, Nike has concocted a truly unexpected turn on the model by amalgamating a number of ongoing trends and stylings. It’s got a bit of the outdoor gorp-core look via the reinforcing lace-toggle and durable nylon mesh mudguard, but the leather foxing above the “lava” purveys that aforementioned built-from-scratch appeal. Even the popular vintage pre-aged technique appears via the midsole where streaks of yellow appears under the tan paint that appears to be scuffed away. Moreover, Nike debuts a new Air Max logo treatment on the tongue and insole as it mimics a human pulse rate.
Given the amount of detail and care required to create this iteration, we suspect an MSRP higher than the usual $175. Stay tuned for official details as we learn more about this new Air Max Plus option because several colorways for both men and women are confirmed to be in the works.
