Jordan Brand is recognizing the growing cultural boom of Mexico by celebrating one of the country’s most significant historical events through a special sneaker release. Honoring the Cry Of Dolores or El Grito de Independencia, this Air Jordan 5 is expected to launch on September 7th.
The Cry Of Dolores occurred on September 16th, 1810 when Roman Catholic priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla rang his church bell, triggering the Mexican War of Independence. This important date is observed every year; on the eve of September 16th, the President of Mexico re-enacts the Cry Of Dolores at the National Palace of Mexico City by ringing the same bell used by Hidalgo.
Information shared by @zsneakerheadz and @brandon1an have revealed official color specifications of Diffused Taupe, Dark Pony, Sail, and Apple Green, although it’s unclear what arrangement of colors will appear on the Air Jordan 5.
