Another firm reminder: Nike’s been changing the game since 1972. Technological advances have decorated the brand’s evolution since the days of creating rubber soles with waffle irons, and despite Nike’s most creative approaches to footwear arriving well after the early 1970s, that innovative spirit was there from the get-go.
The Air Max 1 is the exemplar of breaking new ground, because the debut of the visible Air unit not only change design for Nike, but sent the entire sneaker industry back to the drawing board. Visible cushioning became the norm largely due to the popularity of Air Max, and no other brand has been truly able to replicate when the Swoosh accomplished in 1987.
The truth is that we’ve become a bid jaded when it comes to sneaker cushioning technology because newer ideas are harder to come by if not backed by performance analytics. The newly revealed Air Max Dn, for example, combines that form and function with its uniquely tuned air pressure at the heel. If the data backs the looks, then there’s a chance to break new ground.
This Air Max 1 “Since ’72” is set to arrive soon to Nike.com, joining several other Nike Sportswear models bearing the same insole design. Stay tuned for updates.
