Though the long arc of their partnership stretches back a decade, Rihanna and PUMA renewed that relationship last year with the release of their first pairs of co-branded sneakers. The two partners are again showing that their shared history isn’t coming to an end any time soon. With the latest edition in FENTY x Puma, two Puma Avanti’s shed any vestiges of their on-pitch past and emerge entirely clad in pony hair.
It wasn’t an overnight shift for the Avanti, rather each successive iteration has twisted the model a bit from its origins. Though the archival style made its appearance in 1968, its recent claim to fame is no doubt serving as the canvas for the FENTY x Puma releases dropped in recent memory. As with the past two capsules (silver & black in September, navy & green in November) the pony haired edition is also a two-parter. It is a ground-up reimagining of the model in both cases, replacing its typical leather entirely with the faux-fur that lends these their name.
The only spots left unchanged are the sock liner, sole and laces on both of these shoes. In their respective color choices, one is surely more reigned in then the next despite the material changes. First is a relatively conservative pair in ecru which lets the “Pony” speak for itself. The second introduces brown spots throughout amplifies that theme, literally taking inspiration from equestrian coats.
Both pairs of the Puma x Fenty Avanti “Pony” are set to hit the Puma website on February 22nd. Available in men’s and women’s sizing in both colorways, anticipate a $200 price point. Ahead you can find a full gallery of all the images released in the leadup.
In ironically similar news, the sneaker brand embraced big cats with the Puma Cheetos Scoot Henderson collection.
