New Balance Honors The 35th Anniversary Of The 1500

Before the 1980s, New Balance wasn’t really considered a “fashionable” sneaker brand. While its competitors produced various models that would be co-opted for lifestyle wear, New Balance maintained a strong foothold within the athletics world, at least when it comes to streetwear consciousness. Then in 1982, everything started to change.

New Balance came out with the 990, the most expensive and material-centric runner on the market, and it also began making sneakers England, kicking off the “MADE In UK” line as we know it today. New Balance sneakers with a “MADE In UK” stamp quickly became synonymous with thoughtful design and high quality materials, helping steer the brand’s appeal to uncharted territory at the intersection of sport and fashion.

Now in celebration of that legacy, the Boston brand touches down with a special, 35th anniversary edition of one of its pioneering MADE In UK silhouettes; the New Balance 1500. While the 1500 was considered the pinnacle of running shoe performance upon its release in 1989, it’s now looked upon fondly as a core retro offering for lifestyle wear. This anniversary edition features a white mesh upper, premium grey nubuck overlays, and synthetic detailing, familiar treatments that produce a tame yet unmistakably classic New Balance look. Also, if you geek out over the minor details surrounding sneaker releases, you’ll get a kick out of this anniversary pair’s style code: U1500ANI.

Pairs are currently set to drop on April 4th through New Balance UK, but no word has been mentioned regarding a global release at the time of this writing.
