Nike Adds A Pastel “Platinum Violet” To The Air Max 97 Futura

Beaverton creatives are constantly evaluating the Swoosh’s catalog, revamping and reissuing old mainstays on a continual basis. Already hitting other staples via the Nike Air Max 95 Futura or Air Max 90 Futura, it only seems like a matter of time before all the models in the Air Max line are adopted into the program. The latest to be ushered in is the Air Max 97 Futura, emerging once again in a spring-ready “Platinum Violet” outfitting.

If this is your first time setting your eyes on the updated shoes, Nike radically increases the model’s height by greatly exaggerating the midsole, stretching the already included sections and adding extra rubber padding below the Air unit. The iconic “waves” design is heavily iterated on, and though the shape remains about the same, most of the stripes serve a new structural purpose here. Ancillary additions like an extra pull tab and protruding eye stays add intrigue in the margins and close out the experimental new construction.

Despite the sweeping changes to the hardware, the colorway for this edition is relatively staid. “Platinum Violet” is the primary driver, taking up the entirety of the upper. That’s matched by a translucent gum sole underfoot, itself mirrored by a similarly clad Air unit in the midsole.

The Nike Air Max 97 Futura “Platinum Violet” is expected to roll out to Nike.com and local retailers in the next several weeks. Anticipate a $180 retail price if and when you come across this pair.

For a pair that’s already been released, take a look at the Nike Air Vapormax Plus “Triple Grey.”
