New Balance skate shoes don’t make headlines often, but that’s set to change. The Boston brand is releasing its first ever collaborative Numeric 440v2 on April 15th, tapping Baltimore’s Vu Skateshop for the honor.
The shoes marry the iconic design of the 990 series with skate-ready utility, complete with grey suede overlays, reflective New Balance branding, and a textured 990v3 tongue. Orange treatments on the inner and outer portions of said tongue deliver an ode to Baltimore, specifically the Baltimore Orioles, while forefoot and heel perforations maintain breathability through thick materials.
With the Numeric 440v2, New Balance may have settled on its answer to the Nike SB Dunk Low, Vans Old Skool Pro, and other competitors in the skateboarding space, although the Numeric 480 might have something to say about that. Time will tell, but this collaborative pair definitely looks poised to draw more eyes to the line through beloved and well-established design.
Enjoy official images below and mark your calendars for the shoe’s release on April 15th for $80, with some skate shops stocking pairs as early as April 10th.
