On May The 4th, Star Wars And adidas Will Drop A Superstar XLG Collaboration

adidas is saying “May the 4th Be With You” with a collaborative Star Wars x adidas Superstar XLG dropping on the informal holiday next month. The shoes are also co-signed by Tokyo contemporary art gallery NANZUKA and feature prints from Hiroki Tsukuda, best know for his black and white sci-fi illustrations that thrive under the motto of controlled chaos.

The Superstar XLG stays true to that ethos with Star Wars-inspired, mechanical prints on each side, overlaid by semi-translucent TPU stripes. Fan favorite Droids R2-D2 and C-3PO appear prominently on the lateral and medial panels, respectively, broken up by other industrial-inspired sketches that speak to NANZUKA’s overarching design language.

Overall, the prints do a good job of producing unmistakable franchise ties while maintaining a more contemporary, street-worthy look than other collaborative Star Wars shoes in recent memory. Additionally, as a Superstar “XLG”, the shoes come with a chunkier sole compared to the mainline Superstar, although a shell toe and black Trefoil heel maintain a familiar look up top.

Enjoy official images below and mark your calendars for the shoe’s release on May 4th on adidas.com. If you’d prefer a Star Wars shoe of a different variety, check out the latest Crocs x Star Wars collection dropping on April 22nd.
