The Air Jordan 9 has quietly emerged as one of the key models for Jordan Brand’s golf push. While the Air Jordan 1 still has it beat by sheer quantity, notable fresh editions emerging in the past few months seem to signal that Mike’s ninth signature is coming for its title. Its case gets a whole lot stronger when Beaverton creatives mint brand new colorways just for the green- something that the Air Jordan 9 Golf “Barons” accomplishes in style.
With MJ donning plenty of Air Jordan 9 PEs in the outfield following his first retirement, the model will always be linked to baseball. This colorway specifically seems to be a nod to his most common Player Exclusive — the all-black Mid with the infamous “45” at heel. At first glance, the palette here reads as conservative, sticking to Chicago-affiliate black and white. In the margins, though, is where this pair gets interesting; Jordan’s #45 jersey number from his Birmingham days gets embroidered on the heel via a Roman-style font, while the insole is clad in black & white pinstripes with a varsity-style 45. The most obvious change is the swapped contemporary golf-ready sole made for the green.
The Air Jordan 9 “Barons” releases this month on nike.com, carrying an expected $230 price tag and likely dropping sometime around the PGA Championship that tees of on May 16th.
