Andrew Rizzo BEAMS creative director Shinsuke Nakada is the next big name to get an adidas Originals collaboration, joining forces with the Three Stripes brand on two adidas Stan Smith Lux colorways.
As evidence by projects with Carhartt WIP and his very own label UNLIKELY, Nakada’s personal design ethos speaks to modern, deconstructed workwear aesthetics. His adidas Stan Smith Lux capsule suits that definition well, but simultaneously achieves a dressed-up appearance through a liberal use of suede and the absence of details.
Eyes are first drawn to the detachable, tasseled lace shrouds that appear on each pair, complete with perforations that evoke the look of oxford loafers and other formal footwear silhouettes. Rope laces weave through metallic eyelets underneath, while leather sock liners make for a premium wear. Otherwise, the base of each shoe comes drenched in black and brown suede, respectively, matched underfoot so as to produce two true monotone looks.
