The ASICS GEL-Kayano didn’t become the Japanese brand’s “it” sneaker by turning its nose up at trendy colorways. No, the chomed-out aesthetics that dominate Instagram feeds are exactly the same ones the model has always leaned into. In its latest “Metropolis” colorway, that’s never been truer, meeting those reflective details with some steely gray overtones.
You can catch the very slightest of “Jasper Green” poking out on the tongue, but otherwise this design is carried by an ever-reliable greyscale execution. Mineral hued dominate the upper, a design choice that leans on a philosophy of “give the people what they want” rather than throwing a stylistic curveball. Staid black and white is the choice underfoot, the air units and outsole encircling the midsole with nocturnal shades.
