adidas regularly collaborates with sneaker retailers across the world, but as one might expect, those close to the brand’s Herzogenaurach epicenter account for some of the most meaningful co-signed deliveries. Just as Germans prepare to see the 2024 European Football Championship take over their country this summer, Berlin shop Overkill crafts a new retailer-exclusive adidas ZX8000 for the occasion, adding on-theme footwear to Germany’s biggest sports spectacle in years.
While it maybe somewhat overshadowed by the 2024 Paris Olympics, the significance of the European Football Championship can’t possibly be understated. All the best European football stars (or soccer, to us across the pond) are set to convene across ten different German host cities this July, comprising a massive coalition of talent the German football community hasn’t seen since the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Cleverly, Overkill and adidas have bestowed the moniker of “Heimspiel” on their latest joint effort, which translates to “Home Game.”
The Overkill x adidas ZX8000 does a good job of letting its theme shine clear as day, with black, yellow, and red stripes delivering a direct nod to the German flag colors. That same arrangement makes a minor yet notable cameo on the midsole, while Overkill branding hits the right tongue and mudguard, both of which appear in black in lockstep with other accent elements across the upper. Additionally, separate green and light blue insoles are said to be inspired by the Olympiastadion stadium in Berlin, the site of the tournament’s championship match on July 14th, 2024.
adidas surely could have dressed any number of terrace classics like the adidas Samba and adidas Gazelle in similar German flag makeup for the occasion, and perhaps they will as the tournament creeps closer, but the Overkill x adidas ZX8000 directs energy surrounding EURO 2024 straight to the brand’s retro running catalog.
The Overkill x adidas ZX8000 “Heimspiel” drops June 8th exclusively at overkillshop.com and the brand’s Berlin and Cologne storefronts. Enjoy detailed campaign images below ahead of the release and tap our Sneaker Release Dates page to see more from the Three Stripes Brand.
