Italian Fashion House Versace Debuts The Mercury Sneaker

Woven rope echoes the brand's 80s and 90s iconography.

Italian Fashion House Versace Debuts The Mercury Sneaker

Though still far better known for their work on the runway, don’t underestimate Versace’s stamp on footwear. Clearly intending on reiterating their focus on that vertical, the storied brand just unvieled the Versace Mercury, set to debut in June.

Based just on silhouette, the Versace Mercury executes the maximalist design language rampant not just in their catalog with models like Chain Reaction, Trigreca and Odissea, but in designer footwear as a whole. It’s most clear on the sole unit, comprised of layering, geometric rubber sections, the outsole proper stretching onto the toe at the forefoot. The truly novel addition here is open-air design language, expressed via interconnected cords that connect the upper to the sole with assistance from slight leather patches. Per the fashion house themselves, “handmade woven lace” serves as the “focal point of dynamic design,” assembled by 27 craftspeople and incorporating 16 meters of material all told.

The “Triple White” and “Triple Black” editions of the Versace Mercury will release on June 4th through Versace channels and select boutiques. A launch in greater numbers will follow sometime after. Get a detailed look at the new luxe silhouette via official images just ahead.

Shifting to the Jordan Release Dates 2024 side of things, the Air Jordan 1 “Latte” and Air Jordan 17 “Lightning” highlight this week’s biggest drops.
