These aren’t the same Merrells you grew up with. The Indiana-based outdoor sneaker supplier has evolved so far beyond the realm of “dad shoes” in recent years, tapping into the “gorpcore” niche by way of new models that marry utilitarian design with fashionable aesthetics.
At the same time, we’ve witnessed Merrell beef out its collaborative wing. Co-signed efforts by Dime and Nicole McLaughlin helped draw eyes to the often under-the-radar brand last year, and now another big name in Advisory Board Crystals (Abc.) takes a stab at what might be Merrell’s hottest shoe; the Hyrdo Moc.
While it might not be apparent, the design is said to be inspired by a spiritual journey towards enlightenment, much like when The Beatles and Steve Jobs undertook trips to Mt. Shasta in India, respectively. As such, the theme fits seamlessly within Abc.’s SS24 apparel collection, which revolves heavily around fleeces, fur-lined hoodies, and accessories tailored to mountaineering.
The brief actualizes on the Hydro Moc via a series of low-key features. A magnetic enclosure strap stands as the most notable departure from mainline versions of the Hydro Moc, adorned with an authenticity hologram and a white “Abc.” tag that juts out on the lateral side. Oversized pull tabs add even more uniqueness, while the base structure itself boasts a marbled tan pattern. Moreover, the shoe is comprised of Bloom Performance Foam and is 100% vegan.
The Abc. x Merrell Hyrdo Moc will release exclusively through advisoryboardcrystals.com and goat.com on June 13th for $120. See detailed images of the shoe below before the drop date and tap our Sneaker Release Dates page to preview more upcoming drops.
