Nike Adds A Layer Of Strawberry Jam To The Dunk Low “Waffle”

Another nod to the introduction of waffle soles 50 years ago.

Nike Adds A Layer Of Strawberry Jam To The Dunk Low “Waffle”

What good are waffles without toppings? Nike just took the Waffle Dunks that released earlier this year and added a dollop of strawberry jam, comprising another playful take on the modern lifestyle staple.

The lining, laces, Swoosh, and outsole all appear in bright red here, while the quarter panel carries the theme via an embossed suede waffle pattern. Breaking further from the first “Waffle” colorway, the upper wears lighter tan shades on its suede toe box, collar, and leather overlays, a choice that’s mirrored by a white midsole as opposed to the “Wheat” one of its predecessor. Moreover, Beaverton designers opt for red insoles to suit the “Strawberry Waffle” theme, complete with a waffle-inspired tag that reads “One Bowerman Dr. Beaverton, Oregon” on the heel portion.

The design theme resembles a welcome departure from Nike’s exhaustive lineup of mainline Dunk Low colorways, but there’s more significance at play here outside the realm of breakfast food. Nike’s “Waffle” Dunks honor the pioneering nature of the waffle sole, which Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman created by taking a waffle iron to a piece of rubber in 1972. Obviously the Dunk Low doesn’t have that same tooling underfoot, but odes to a defining moment in sneaker history through the clever design theme.

The Nike Dunk Low “Strawberry Waffle” releases August 20th for $125 in men’s sizes. See official images below ahead of the drop and tap our Sneaker Release Dates page for a full preview of upcoming Nike deliveries.
