John Kim Updated October 2nd, 2024: The Nike Kobe 5 Protro “X-Ray” is expected to release on October 17th, 2024. The design is ostensibly inspired by the infamous Kobe X-ray t-shirts, which will also be returning this Holiday season.

Looking ahead specifically to the Halloween-themed festivities of the Holiday 2024 season, Nike and the Kobe Brand have created the Kobe 5 X-Ray in honor of the Black Mamba’s astounding five NBA championships earned throughout his tenure as a Laker. Although the story has been told before, Nike loops in an unsuspecting source material that have had Kobe fans nodding in approval.
Expected to release on Halloween 2024 for $190, the Kobe 5 “X-Ray” is covered in striking blue shades often seen on X-Ray film at hospitals. This particular design pictured above is said to be taken from a t-shirt from the early 2010s featuring the actual X-Ray of Kobe Bryant’s hand wearing five over-sized rings representing the championships he won as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers. Vanessa Bryant teased a first look earlier in March.

The shirt in question is pictured just below. As you can see, Kobe Bryant’s various hand injuries are depicted, including a variety of fractures, dislocations, and torn ligaments. Behind the t-shirt is a message that reads “Broken Not Beaten”, which signifies the unrelenting fight that drove Kobe to success at the highest level. Ever since this Kobe 5 release came to light, prices of the t-shirt have shot up on marketplaces such as eBay.
The Nike Kobe 5 will be a focus of the Kobe Brand’s as we head into 2025; dropping early next year will be the Kobe 5 “Year Of The Mamba”, which coincides with the Year of the Snake in the Chinese Zodiac.
