Models like the New Balance 1906R and 9060 may have leapfrogged the New Balance 550 in terms of virality in the last year or so, but the retro lifestyle sensation is still one of the most popular shoes on the market. Having shown no signs of slowing down, a new vintage-inspired “Heron Blue” colorway just went live on the New Balance website.
Taking note from Aimé Leon Dore’s market-shaking re-introduction of the model back in 2020, vintage and pre-aged treatments have defined a winning formula for general release colorways. Pressing on with what the model does best, New Balance now adds another pair to the “Reimagined” trio that dropped earlier this year.
A pre-yellowed sole is matched in essence by paint-chipped New Balance branding and cracked leather near the collar and forefoot, reflecting the model’s journey from being a forgotten basketball shoe from 1989 to one of the hottest lifestyle pick-ups of the modern era. The color blocking follows the same patterns as the other aforementioned “Reimagined” pairs, only with the titular “Heron Blue” color now presented on various accent elements throughout.
If you’re feeling compelled to cop a pair; see our “Where To Buy” section below for shopping links.
