The current sneaker trend in everyday lifestyle fashion continues to stay docked on the slimmer-fitting aesthetic of retro athletic footwear. Spearheaded by the adidas Samba, this fad has ushered the return of a variety of other models such as the Nike Field General and New Balance T500, and now Japanese sportswear label is ready to play with Skyhand OG.
This archival model from 1993 was intended to be a handball sneaker, but it’s a perfect fit for the demands of the sleeker low-profile look. First re-introduced earlier this June in collaboration with Copenhagen-based Hay, the ASICS Skyhand OG is back on July 12th in two vibrant colorways of Cilantro green and Midnight Plum purple. Both feature full suede uppers with leather strike logo overlays and gum soles. To further fit them for the modern 2024 consumer, the Skyhand OG features Flytefoam at the forefoot and EVA foam on the heel for daily comfort.
It’s very possible that the Skyhand OG could be positioned as the next canvas for collaborations as it lends well for clean-cut design options; however no such projects are currently known to the public.
The ASICS Skyhand OG will release on July 12th on ASICS.com for $100.
