One of the biggest names in skateboarding is checking off a major milestone with Nike SB, and they’re releasing a collaborative shoe for the occasion. Often cited as the best skater in the world, Grant Taylor is reaching back into his personal archives for a take on his signature SB Blazer Low GT, the “20 Years” edition.

While this shoe doesn’t celebrate a firm two decades of being a signature Swoosh athlete, it is their 20th anniversary in a different sense. 2004 marked the first time the then-adolescent Taylor made his way into an official Nike cut-up video, that years’ “On Tap” alongside heavyweights like Paul Rodriguez, Danny Supa and Brian Anderson. Given that major milestone, the two partners show their mutual appreciation in traditional fashion, basing the palette of this shoe off the customary “Fine China” given on most couples’ twentieth.

Though even that narrative alone is more storytelling than in your average collab, the iconography that crops up throughout this shoe only doubles down on it. A bottle cap emblem on the heel counter harkens to the official promotional stickers distributed with “On Tap,” a cheeky brew-centric double entendre on the “Next Up” title. The peripheral details of this release, from the interior to a graphic outsole to the packaging, is where the story is clearest told, imbuing this drop with the full weight of the occasion.

The Nike SB x Grant Taylor Blazer Low “20 Years” is expected to get firmer release details in the coming weeks. For now, check out official images just ahead.
