Simply on a level of cultural significance and irreverent brand attitude, Bape & Vans is a match made in heaven. Only first coming together in 2021, the pair’s history together may not be particularly long, but the potential for the skate & streetwear brands’ output together remains sky-high. Look no further than their latest collection, bringing trademark A Bathing Ape print to the Sk8-Mid & Old Skool.
The Sk8 Mid plays things relatively conservative. Trademark Bape camo makes a major impact stretching from either quarter panel through the heel and the brand’s name appears in vulcanized rubber on the midsole. Speaking broadly, however, the olive & black overall colorway lands in easily digestible territory relative to previous off-the-wall capsules.
The Old Skool is the silhouette that gets experimental. Though its classic, simplistic construction means there aren’t a ton of hardware bells and whistles, that same olive ABC camo alternates on each side of this pair. Across both shoes, pink & blue contrast print lands the right side of either shoe, switching over from typical Vans branding to the Bape Star logo in the process.
The full Vans x Bape collection will launch on July 26th. Despite Bape’s usual luxury pricing, similar past collections have veered much closer to the skate brand’s MSRPs. Expect both the Old Skool & SK8-Mid to hover around $120.
