Anthony Edwards and adidas Basketball are responsible for one of the most memorable sneaker rollout campaigns in recent memory. Viral ads of Ant-Man poking fun at competing brands evoke memories of Spike Lee’s work with Air Jordan in the 80s and 90s, strengthening an already prevelant comparison, and brand activations have been just as headline-worthy.
In September of 2023, adidas and the City of Atlanta debuted the NBA star’s first shoe, the adidas AE1, at a community event honoring Edwards’ impact on his hometown throughout his University of Georgia days and short yet stellar professional career. It was there that the two parties unveiled a mural of Edwards and named his birthday, August 5th, “Anthony Edwards Day” in the greater Atlanta area.
A full calendar year later, the date will commemorate another significant milestone as the adidas AE1 Low “Mural” is officially set for launch, the second colorway of the low-top Anthony Edwards shoe to release. Borrowing from the background of the painting that looms in Atlanta, the shoes come with a coral pink cage and orange adidas branding on the heel, with black mesh accounting for the top half.
