With adidas’ foothold in the lifestyle space a growing monster in the industry and the continuing trendiness of turn-of-the-century style, the Three Stripes has begun to revisit their own silos from the era. The Samba Millenium was one of the first, a retooling of the classic football model with some retro touches. Now, staying true to their catalog, the Superstar Millenium is set to hit shelves some 25 years after its first entrance.
Much like that retro Samba, the Superstar Millenium reflects a 1998 design in one-to-one fashion. While the iconic shell-toe remains, the sole is drastically different from the simplistic rubber the model has maintained throughout its four decades on the shelves. On top of sporting new line-work and a sectioned layout, it’s sized up greatly overall, creating an even chunkier atmosphere that doubles down on the Superstar proper’s composition.
Despite some minor changes like an extended heel cup, the upper remains pretty recognizable, comprised almost entirely out of tumbled leather in these two colorways. Speaking of, the palettes on either shoe keep things conservative, rolled out in trademark white-on-black and black-on-white to ease this “new” silhouette onto shelves.
The adidas Superstar Millennium drops via adidas.com and retail partners on August 1st, retailing for $130.
