The following was published on August 9th, 2024:

The first two Above The Clouds x ASICS collaborations were pretty forgettable, but in late 2023, the Australian imprint found a hit in the GT-2160. That shoe, a synthetic-heavy take on the runner, was met with significant demand and now goes for almost double retail on the grey market. Taking note from the success of that project, Above The Clouds and ASICS linked up on another GT-2160 of the same materials back in July and now appear poised to revisit their winning formula once again, presenting two simple simple black and white pairs.

While the preceding Above The Clouds x ASICS GT-2160s explored earthy green and brown looks, this latest delivery puts color theory to rest, with monochrome designs resembling something you might expect out of a Comme des Garçons collab. Here, the hallmark material composition of ATC x GT-2160 shoes is the focal appeal. The toe box and quarter of both pairs are overlaid by a thin layer of synthetic material, adding a bit of trail sensibility to the runner-turned-lifestyle shoe. The two shoes don’t differ greatly from mainline colorways aside from the unique material addition, but as we’ve seen through other collaborators like jjjjound and aformentioned CDG, there’s a market for simple collab shoes that represent tasteful upgrades from general releases.

Both pairs are expected to retail for $150, but we’ve yet to hear of a firm release date at the time of this writing. Revisit our Sneaker Release Dates page while we populate all the latest info as it comes in.
