While we’re used to detailed narratives playing out on new colorways of Mike’s signature shoe, such isn’t the case with the “Diffused Blue.” Rather than any specific reference to His Airness’ illustrious career, these simply provide an easily-worn pair of warm weather kicks.
The simplified design certainly helps that case, utilizing the cerulean shade on the patent leather mudguard, select branding throughout and the sockliner. Nearly every other section of those shoe is clad in pure white, including a clear translucent sole underfoot. Despite the emphasis on unadulterated clean aesthetics, there are some ties to previous editions of his 11th signature.
For years, navy was an untouched shade in the Air Jordan 11 canon, but the Air Jordan 11 “Win Like ’82” introduced the steely shade, taking inspiration both from Jordan’s UNC championship team and the Georgetown Hoyas they felled in the final game. Just two years later, it made its way to the low-cut sibling with the Jordan 11 “Navy Snakeskin.” This “Diffused Blue” pair fills a void somewhere in between, carrying much of the design of that the Win Like ’82 release onto the shorter edition and tapping into a low to high formula that’ll inspire the Bred Jordan 11 Low in 2025.
