Updated August 19th, 2024: Official images have landed of the adidas Samba “Dia de los Muertos” in black as well as revealing a pair in white. While the lighter version is essentially a palette swap that plants off-white where black was and vice versa, the new colorway also features an updated Calavera emblem on its tongue. Original article posted August 19th, 2024: Even at this early stage, we’ve begun to get a steady stream of Halloween-centric releases (the Nike Ja 2 “Nightmare” & Jordan 1 Low “Black Cat” perfect examples.) It follows, then, that a holiday just a few days later should get some “first look” love. The Three Stripes are rolling out a special edition collection for Dia de Los Muertos this year, highlighted by an eccentric take on their dominant adidas Samba.

The tongue tag begins a heavy dose of commemorative touches, depicting a Calavera character replete with a top hat and classy floral wear. The exposed stitching that outliens the forefoot and heel match that sugar skull detail, a given with how synonymous they are with the Mexican holiday. The eyestays are broken up into bone-like patches to accomplish the same goal, and their extension at the top two laces cedes space for embroidered flowers. A gum bottom completes the design underfoot, and with how much of an influence black & white hav eon this design, it allows this eccentric edition to stick relatively close to the Samba’s most iconic looks.
