Though Teddy Santis has undoubtedly placed a newfound spotlight on New Balance’s MADE in USA offerings, even those without his co-sign serve up a combination of premium materials and sleek colorways. Look no further than the New Balance 997, a staple of the mainline and perfectly exemplifying the Boston Brand’s signature aesthetics in navy & grey.
It’s not a particularly eccentric colorway on tap here, but that doesn’t seem like it’s the aim with the model at this juncture. Firstly, it’s always presented more of a “daily driver” option. Secondly, as the silhouette works its way back to market, we’ve gotten word of a slew of “essential” outfits, beginning with the grey and black colorways from the past few months and continued with this navy look.
While the overall palette may not blow you away, some of teh detail shots included here just might intricate details like the textured TPU towards the collar, cobblestone suede on the tongue and pigskin suede on the topmost layer elucidate why MADE in USA releases have such a dedicated fanbase.
The New Balance 997 is expected for Fall/Winter ’24. Though pricing information isn’t confirmed at this stage, similar releases have hovered around the $210 mark.
