Nike has released several Air Max Plus offshoots over the years, but the Air Max Plus Drift might be its most ambitious. The TPU-heavy re-imagination of Sean McDowell’s original design debuted at the top of 2024 and has since hit shelves in a variety of eye-catching colorways, this “Navy/University Blue” edition being the latest.
Most pairs feature a single color on the outer shell and a gradient base layer, and that stays true here. The Beaverton brand’s hallmark “University Blue” fades across the mesh portion of the upper, also touching up the center portion of the midsole and Tuned Air chambers. Otherwise, the rest of the shoe comes painted in “Navy” for a compelling bluescale mix.
Producing a successful offshoot sneaker is a difficult assignment, but the Air Max Plus Drift has been pretty well received thus far, appealing directly to younger consumers with a penchant for non-traditional footwear. With Vapormax Plus releases slowing to a crawl, the Drift looks poised to become the most popular Air Max Plus offshoot on the market sooner rather than later, if it hasn’t already.
In any case, look for the Air Max Plus Drift “Navy/University Blue” to hit shelves during the Fall 2024 shopping season for $185. If you’re a fan of the furtiristic vibe but would prefer a different Air Max model, the Air Max 90 Drift continues surfacing new colorways.
