Storytelling is typically part and parcel of the Jordan Brand experience in 2024. Even if it doesn’t reflect Bulls uniforms or an especially iconic performance, there’s usually some sort of tie that links new releases back to the vaunted career of #23. However, particularly with the Air Jordan 1 Low, that has fallen to the wayside, and it might be for the better. Rather than any weighty narrative load, we’ve seen a string of drops that carry expressive detail simply for the sake of it, again the case with the upcoming “Football Grey” colorway.
This shoe begins with reflective satin-like fabric on its base layer, clad in deep navy blue that starts things off on a regal note. Typical leather returns with “Football Grey” overlays, contrasted by an embroidered Wings logo at the heel and a patch of shaggy polyester on the tongue.
Let’s not bury the lede here, though – the main draw is a set of gold lace dubraes that sport Jordan Brand iconography, allowing a range of permutations between 23 lettering, a basketball, the Jumpman or a meta mini Air Jordan 1 High. Look at the insoles in the official images for what seems to be the chief theme here, a celebration of the brand itself. All of that imagery, as well as an eclectic varsity font spell-out of Air Jordan, is reflected on that interior section.
