The Nike Air Max Scorpion Rages Back With Metallic Midsoles

The Nike Air Max Scorpion occupies some interesting territory in the current Swoosh catalog. Sustained retro efforts under the visible air umbrella from the Air Max 2013 to the Air Max Sunder are well-aligned with the retro taste of the current consumer base, with the Scorpion entering just before that full court press began. Despite that, Beaverton has kept up a consistent effort for the chunky silo, and more than two years after its introduction, it’s still managing to deliver surprising looks.

The new territory here is the bronze accenting that covers the midsole, that section mirroring the bulbous, curvy design of the outsole as it marries to the Flyknit upper construction. The rest of the shoe is executed in either jet black or darkened burgundy, particularly appealing in the fuzzy, plush fabric that takes over the foot entrance and tongue. While this look tackles some vintage, mid-2000s aesthetics with its colorway, the silhouette more generally continues to tackle the split dynamics of other offerings like the Nike Vapormax 2023, combining lightweight anchoring with a hefty, hefty dose of cushioning underfoot.
