The Nike Kobe 9 Elite Low Protro “Halo” lands on September 19th, releasing exclusively in adult sizing for a $210 retail price, eschewing the GS size run of the high-cut counterpart that dropped in August. A continuation of the “Halo” theme that’s brought a number of Protro models back to market, the all-white colorway fittingly marks the first drop for the Kobe 9 Low since its original run back in 2014. The Kobe 9 proper marked one of the biggest advancements in the Mamba line, returning to a high-cut composition for the first time since the Kobe 3. Additionally, the heavy reliance on Flyknit, inarguably the most innovative Nike tech of the mid 2010s, signalled the first appearance of the woven hardware on a signature Swoosh silhouette. Though the Kobe 9 High was certainly in the spotlight for the first few months of the model’s time on the market, the low-cut alternative emerged towards the top of 2014.
As with all editions in the Protro line, the “performance” aspect is just as important as the “retro” element. In this renewed version, the Kobe 9 Elite Low adds a dose of Nike React in the midsole, as well as extended the underfoot traction pattern for improved exterior grip. While aesthetically, the monochrome colorway is easily understandable, collectors will note the appearance of a repeating Mamba print outlining the carbon fiber shank towards the heel.
